A simple tip to help make your revision sink in...

Sometimes it's easy to spend hours revising, revising and revising for your ACCA exams, to find that at the end of it all it feels like you can't remember a single thing.

This is obviously not ideal!

In my 15 years of teaching accountancy exams, I have found a number of ways to overcome this such as effective note-taking and having a structured revision plan.

However, there is an even more obvious way to make your ACCA revision more effective with minimal effort. It may seem simple but is often ignored by many students!

Have you considered changing the environment in which you are studying?

Whether due to necessity or out of routine, it's common for students to revise in the same place every day - yet this could be harming their chances of remembering the information.

An article by the New York Times suggests that if you change where you are studying, you could increase your chances of remembering the information:

"The first step towards better learning is to simply change your study environment from time to time. Rather than sitting at your desk or the kitchen table studying for hours, finding some new scenery will create new associations in your brain and make it easier to recall information later."

Of course not everyone has the time to pack up their things and find a nice field to study in - but that doesn't mean you can't change where you work.

Instead of sitting at that same seat in the library, find a bench outside to sit on. If you normally work at home, why not take your reading to the library?

If you come across an important piece of theory whilst reading in a new environment, your brain may make the association to the information if it comes up in an exam.

One of the most important tips when it comes to your revision is variety. This means not just using the same type of resource, but it also means not revising in the same place everyday.

ACCA Printable Study Text

Although our ACCA resources are online you can still change the environment in which you use them. As mentioned, instead of going through the resources in your kitchen, why not take them into the garden? Or take them to the library?

We also offer printable versions of all our ACCA study text so you don't have to sit in front of the computer to read the text - you can take it out with you!
